Will There Be VoIP For Xmas? 7 Ways For Santa To Be Good To You

Just a fun list for you, if you’re buying stuff for a VoIP or voice tech afficionado for the holiday season.

  1. Books. Ted Wallingford’s VoIP Hacks and Marc Collier + David Endler’s Hacking Exposed VoIP.
  2. Plug and play VoIP service. There are many options, but Alec Saunders and VoIPGirl have repeatedly said how much they like PhoneGnome. So easy to use, it seems.
  3. VoIP phones. Oh, there are so many. A list will be posted here soon.
  4. Video. Pick up a nice web camera for that special someone. Got a Mac? Get an iSight.
  5. Recording. Podcasting is hot, and all you need is recording software and a microphone.
  6. Audio interface. For serious podcasters or voice workers, get an M-Audio Fast Track USB audio recording interface and a reasonable microphone. Compact, inexpensive and high quality.
  7. MacBook Pro laptop. Okay, this has nothing to do with VoIP. Unless it has an iSight webcam, built-in microphone, loaded with VoIP software for the Mac, and a Wi-Fi card. And if it somehow had a satellite Wi-Fi card and a solar panel charger, I could give it to my grandmother so that my mother could have a video chat with her at any time, instead of having to spend thousands of dollars on a plane ticket, not to mention shutting down her business.
