What Is SIP Technology?
Traditional telephone calls are routed through a system of telephone cables and stations until it finally reaches the person you are calling. Because the call is routed through so many cables, it costs a lot of money per minute. SIP technology is changing all this.
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a peer-to-peer technology that allows computers to talk to each other without having the call routed through central stations on the way. Therefore, calls are cheaper because you no longer have to pay for the wires that carry the call from caller to receiver. Calling from one SIP-enabled phone to another cuts out all the traditional routing that goes on and reduces your call charge drastically.
Although SIP technology has been around for some years, it has only been recently when companies and individuals are investing in the technology and using it. There are computers and phones offering SIP-based services. Many people do use SIP handsets connected to their computers, but in reality it is much easier to use an SIP-enabled handset. This makes calling with SIP just like using your ordinary traditional phone.
