Skype 2.6 Windows Beta Update: Hot Naked Skype
Skype has a version 2.6 beta update for Windows with a few new features. One is the ability to control Skypecasts from within the UI. Another is a bandwidth indicator. [via Skype blogs]
And the big new feature is “naked Skype”, which allows developers to separate the UI and the engine. So you can develop voice applications where the Skype engine runs without the interface appearing. Alec Saunders talks a bit about this silent mode Skype. This will be great for the hot new niche of voice data applications, click-to-call.
Skype Onine Users Discrepancy
To do various VoIP tests, I have double or triple accounts for many soft phones, including Skype. I was just running Skype for PC V2.5.0.122 on my laptop and 2.5.0.141 on my desktop. At this very moment, I’m calling my laptop’s Skype from my desktop. The desktop Skype shows 5,843,648 users online but my laptop Skype says 5,857,679. Wonder what that’s about.
