New Wi-Fi Protocol ‘N’ Testing Process To Be Sped Up
The Wi-Fi Alliance has decided to speed up the testing process for the new 802.11n specification, which is a new high-speed protocol for wireless networks. The spec is still subject to standardization by the IEEE, but certification for manufacturers is scheduled for March 2007. [via Comms Design]
This protocol could be what VoIP over Muncipal Wi-Fi needs, for consistent quality calls in public, using wireless VoIP phones, Skype-certified or otherwise.
Red Cross Goes With Outsourced VoIP
After last year’s problems with Hurricane Katrina disaster recovery in the United States, some relief agencies have decided to go with reliable, outsourced VoIP services. In the case of the Red Cross, they’ve selected Verizon Business, which offers a number of suitable features including WAN (Wide Area Network) connectivity, managed services and more. Australia’s Chariot ISP Takes Financial Hit On VoIP
Chariot, one of Australia’s oldest ISPs, decided to write off a loss of over Aus$7 M on a joint VoIP project with Transcom who are now suing for over Aus$3 M. [via IT Wire]
Given all the business partnerships going on in the VoIP industry this past year, I guess this sort of thing was eventually bound to happen at least once.
