UK City-wide WiFi Access

After so much hype and gossip around US cities offering city-wide WiFi, The Cloud has announced that it will bring it’s own version of city-wide high-speed WiFi broadband internet access to the UK.

The Cloud will begin phasing in their city-wide WiFi across 3 Lond boroughs (Islington, Kensington and Camden) and 7 cities – Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Oxford, Cambridge. The new wireless network will reach approximately 4 million people. who currently use BT Openzone, O2, SkypeZones and Nintendo WiFi. However, The Cloud has ambitions for other service providers to join their network.

WiFi networks allow users to access the internet at high speeds to send email, browse websites, chat online and make VoIP calls using services such as Skype. The Cloud currently operate about 6,000 hotspots across the UK, Germany and Sweden. They recently implemented Europe’s largest WiFi network covering London’s Canary Wharf financial district.
