Skype support now built into motherboards
Asustek, the manufacturers of notebook computers will now incorporate a telecom adapter in their M2N / TeleSky and P5B / TeleSky boards. These limited edition motherboards (limited edition motherboards?) come with 60 SkypeOut minutes thrown in for free. There’s no official word on how much these boards will cost. The adapter-fitted motherboards will support both corded and cordless phones.
The telecom adaptor will convert standard PSTN lines into Skype phones. The adaptor facilitates the use of other Skype functions such as SkypeIn, Call waiting, Speed dial, etc. Right now the motherboard has PCI card embedded into it which gives you an RJ-11 jack that can be used for plugging in your regular telephone. It is only a matter of time before Asustek or another manufacturer comes up with a motherboard with the chipset embedded in it for a simpler solution that allows for not only Skype support but support for other softphones such as Gizmo and SightSpeed.
