Skype Still Not Ready For Business
Shortly after releasing Skype 3.0 for Windows, Skype released a Business version for Windows. After reading Ken Camp’s recent post about another VoIP blogger Jan’s experience with this new “Skype for Windows - Business version”, I’m so very glad I didn’t install the beta. I already have probably over a dozen soft VoIP clients - alternatives to Skype - on my desktop computer, but I would have made provisions for a new Skype. Except something told me I should wait on this one, which I did, thankfully. I just couldn’t afford to have Skype crashing on me.
I’m not sure if two different versions of Skype can coexist on Windows , but I don’t have time to try. Time to get an extra “test lab” computer, I guess. But I think Skype needs to reevaluate their approach to business use of VoIP - even if it means spawning of a new branch of the software development tree.
