Skype Partners With Thompson Directories For UK Local Search

Skype has signed a deal with Thompson Directories that will add local UK search capabilities to the Skype toolbar. Search results will be displayed along with paid advertisements at the top of the page, along with a list of businesses whose locations are shown on a map.

Any businesses listed in the local search results will be enabled with one-click-to-call. Searchers will see a Skype button beneath the advertisement and then be able to call using Skype by clicking the button. As well as being able to initiate a SkypeOut call directly from a search results page, the toolbar will also make it easy to make a call to any telephone number on any website.

“Thomson Directories are widely acknowledged as the market leader in local search, so it made perfect sense for Skype to work with them,” said Skype’s VP of Business Development, James Bilefield.
