Skype introduces Skype Pro

SkypeSkype, who recently ended the free unlimited calls within the US and Canada plan have announced a new worldwide calling plan today.

The big news is the introduction of Skype Pro, a call plan that means you will no longer be charged a fee per minute when calling landlines anywhere in the world on the PSTN, but you will be charged a small connection fee of 0.039 Euro per call.

Skype Pro will be subscription-based, priced at an introductory rate of $14.95 (US) and $17.50 (Canada). Discounts of up to 50% are available for customers who subscribe before January 31.

What does this shift towards a subscription model mean for Skype? Steady, predictable revenue that they can bank on. What does it mean for you? That depends on the number of SkypeOut calls you make.
