Siemens Gigaset C450 IP for Ireland

Siemens are introducing their Gigaset C450 IP phone into Irish stores from October at a price of €129.95. The Gigaset C450 IP is a dual mode VoIP / DECT cordless phone with a host of built-in functionality such as a color LCS display, SMS, plenty of storage for your frequently called numbers as well as hands-free capability.

The Republic of Ireland has a sporadic broadband user base outside of the major cities (Dublin, Galway, Cork) as the incumbent telco (Eircom) has been slow to roll out broadband to the rest of the countryside. However, Ireland is home to many big tech companies as well as a large number of call centers taking calls from all over Europe. (Google, Amazon, Apple and Dell all have major operations in the country.)

With Siemens making a push into the Irish market, VoIP in Ireland may well see an uptick as consumers and businesses seek out ways to cut costs both locally and internationally. The problem is that while the Irish people are ready to use new technologies, Ireland’s telecoms backbone does not yet offer everyone the chance to get broadband. And without broadband, how will sales for Siemens fare? Who knows.
