Rumor: Airport Express with Video Streaming

Rumors have been flying around the internet over the last couple of days based on an AppleInsider report. The current version of Airport Express has been around for quite some time, having been initially received very well. It serves various functions as a WAP, wireless printer server and wireless music streaming.

But there have been rumors for many months now that Apple were deeply involved in the development of the next generation of Airport Express that would represent Apple’s push into the living room. Rumors suggest that the new Airport Express will add video streaming from iTunes (and possibly FrontRow), allowing users to stream movies purchased from iTunes to their televisions.

Currently there is a range of music videos and popular TV shows available on iTunes, but these are available in resolutions suitable for iPods and screens with resolutions lower than those nice looking HDTVs. So if Apple do introduce their highly anticipated movie store, what resolution will be available? Will we be able to download a movie in HD quality or are we HDTVers going to be subject to a somewhat ‘grainy’ picture?

Personally I cannot wait to see what will happen. A souped-up Airport Express would be a nice addition to my 32″ LG32LX2R!
