Motorola RSG Breaks Barriers Between VoIP & Cellular Services

Motorola is introducing a Residential Seamless Mobility gateway (RSG) that is reputed to break down the barrier between VoIP and cellular phone services.

The RSG products will include an 802.11b/g access point, a built-in VoIP adapter and a 4-port router. This will allow users to control their home network, power their traditional landline telephones as well as act as a hotspot for cellphones. It is intended that the RSg will act seamlessly in making the decision on how a call should be routed in order to save as much money as possible for the user.

Aside from making outside calls, the RSG will allow users to transfer calls within the home wireless and cellular network without interrupting the call. motorola expect to ship the RSG2500 in the Q4 2006, with the RSG3500 shipping summer 2005.
