Mobiboo Mobile VoIP Service
Mobiboo, a UK-based WiFi network provider, have announced that they are now offering their own VoIP service accessed via a UTStarcom F3000 WiFi handset and the Mobiboo Dashboard application.
“The cost-savings of VoIP have already been proven by companies such as Skype. Mobiboo has gone one step further to replicate a true mix of traditional mobile, DECT and landline phone services to provide both residential and business customers with a credible alternative, thus giving real value for money. In a nut shell, a mobile number, DECT functionality and landline pricing with the additional coverage available with Wi-Fi,” said Mobiboo’s Commercial Director, Richard Newsome.
WiFi hotspots are still relatively few and far between in the UK, outside major conurbations WiFi networks are practically non-existent. Put it this way, you would not want to rely on WiFi connectivity outside a major UK city. However, Mobiboo have teamed up with The Cloud to improve their WiFi coverage. Still, even with this partnership, a large sector of the UK will not be covered.
It is interesting to see companies adopting WiFi and VoIP technologies on a scale such as this. But the UK is a touch market to break into, any company who would want to offer UK-wide WiFi coverage would require a massive investment. It’s a great idea, and I’m sure some cutting edge ‘techies’ will use the service, but I think they’re coming to market too soon.

I have just signed up for a mobiboo phone.
The call quality is great with a good signal and the call costs are a fraction of conventional land line and mobiles.
I now have a mobile internet phone with an 07911 number from which I am able to make and receive calls like an ordinary mobile when I am in a wifi hotspot.
There has been an interesting development recently whereby Mobiboo has joined forces with Tovo.
I have recently purchased a dual purpose phone from Tovo that can switch automatically between conventional GSM and VOIP depending on the setting I choose. It’s great and I am sure is the future of telecoms.

I’d sign up too Alex, the problem is that WiFi networks in the UK are patchy (to say the least) once you get out side of the major connurbations … where I live.
Although maybe I could just use it while on the WiFi network at the office … there’s a thought!

I use it both in the office (for all my international calls) and from home and its saving me a fortune!
Lets hope the WiFi networks in the UK get improved then it will be a truly amazing service!
Lots of family, friends and colleagues are using the service from home and we all talk to each other for free!

Man that sounds absolutely brilliant! The problem for me is that I tend to use my mobile outside work, which is when I get free calls to others on my network (O2) and landlines.
So if I did sign up to Mobiboo, I’d probably not get that much use out of it. Having just said that, I do have a WiFi network at home too that I could use it for.
Another thought!

In that case u should get a dual purpose phone – from Mobiboo or Tovo!
When you are in a wireless network (or at home) u can use VOIP and automatically use GSM when no wireless net work is available.
Try it – it works brilliantly and selects to preferred / available net work!

I am actually using the Tovo T450 – give it a go – and let me know how you get on!
