Linksys Skype-certified WIP320 WiFi Phone
What’s this? Hot on the heels of recent announcements from Netgear and Philips, Linksys are working on their very own PC-independent Skype phone called the WIP320 based around a Broadom BCM4318 single-chip 802.11 b/g WiFi chip and a BCM1161 Mobile VoIP processor.
As you can see from the photo it looks very much like a cell phone, light and easy to carry about. Much like the Netgear WiFi phone that it will be going head to head with, the Linksys WIP320 is also seemingly adopting the Apple-esque all-white design.
What’s great about it is that it uses WiFi rather than DECT, so you can take it on the road with you and hop online at a WiFi hotspot. The lettering on the buttons indicate that it will also have messaging funtionality built-in, or maybe they are just for navigating the Skype contact list that it will probably have?
So, it looks like things are seriously hotting up. That’s great news for VoIP in general and Skypers!
