Improving WiFi signal strength using wire mesh
If you’ve been a VoIP-Sol.com reader you’ll probably remember previous posts on how to improve your WiFi signal and how it can affect your Quality of Service. We also recently talked about how Christmas decorations, specifically lights, can have a detrimental effect on your wireless signal strength.
Many people have to endure less than stunning transfer speeds via their wireless network, but there are ways to improve the situation. One of the easiest ways is to simply add a booster antenna, but these can be costly. But you are in luck, because according to N3Xtech you may be able to boost that signal with some cheap wire mesh. I kid you not!
- Cut 2 semi-circles out of a piece of cardboard. The semi-circles should be the same size and the length should be 1 or 2 inches greater than the width of your router.
- Cut 2 small holes in each piece of cardboard. The distance between the holes should be the same as between each of your antennas.
- Place a line of glue going across the mesh wire a couple inches above the bottom of the mesh. The glue can be substituted with tape or anything else you can think of.
- Press one of the cardboard semi-circle pieces to the line of glue on the mesh. Hold or clamp until dry.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4, a few inches higher on the mesh, and using the other piece of cardboard.
- Place the mesh wire contraption onto your router, and enjoy your improved signal strength.
So there you are. Try it out and see how it goes. Thanks again to the folks at N3Xtech for an excellent tutorial, well done!
