GTalk2VoIP: A VoIP Gateway For Google Talk & Messenger
GTalk2VoIP is a new application designed to allow users of Google Talk to talk with users of Windows Live Messenger. However, it also allows outgoing calls from both apps to any PSTN number. It also provides for incoming calls from a PSTN numbers. And how do you set it up? Add service@gtalk2voip.com to your contact list as a gateway.
This is innovative, but I wonder, will this soft VoIP craze last? To me, IP Telephony in general is about just that - telephony with a telephone. Users who have teethed on soft VoIP apps like Skype and Gizmo are looking to move on to pastures green. And in those pastures green there are no cables and no applications on a computer, just an ordinary looking telephone that works as usual but makes cheap VoIP calls. That’s where it is.
Soft VoIP, in my opinion, will continue to fulfill the needs of newcomers just getting to terms with what VoIP means. But there will come a time when the masses will make their VoIP calls with a telephone, and soft VoIP will be dead - ish. It will live on inside the phone.
