GrandCentral: Telephone Number Consolidation

Here’s an interesting idea!  Let’s say you have a home phone, home office phone, work phone and cell phone like most people nowadays.  This is great isn’t it?  Well it is until you leave the house, or you aren’t at the desk where your partner thinks you’ll be.  Or say you are dowtown and your mother calls your home phone, but you aren’t there to talk to her!  My word, disastrous!

Well fear not, because GrandCentral has come to save the day.  GrandCentral is a new web application that conslidates all of your telephone numbers.  So instead of  handing out all your various contact numbers, you could give out your GrandCentral number.  When someone calls that number, all of your phones attached to that central number will ring.  So no matter where you are, you should be contactable.

It then gets cool because you can stipulate different rules.  For example, maybe you don’t want your mother to phone through while you are at work.  You can set a preference so that all your other telephones will ring, but when she calls to ask when you’ll be back for dinner your work number will not ring.

I’m sold.  Sign me up.  Now!

But asides this, GrandCentral offers a lot more.  You can get your voicemail online, setup different greetings per caller and even switch between different phones (ie. change from office to home phone) midcall.  What’s more, GrandCentral helps protect your privacy.  By handing out only your GrandCentral number you no longer need to worry about some telemarketer getting a hold of your personal cell phone number.
