Gizmo Close To Releasing Browser Plugin
Good news for all you Gizmo users. Om Malik writes that he has been given a preview of a new service developed by SIPphone, Gizmo’s parent company. It will work like Jajah where users visit a web page, enter the telephone number you want to call and start the call. The main difference in the current beta version according to Om is that you cannot call from your own personal phone like you can with Jajah, a glaring feature omission in my humble opinion.
So what’s so good about this? Well if ever you were looking for a reason to drop your addiction to Skype, this is it. Instead of being blocked from making your call when on a wireless network down at your local Starbucks, this new plugin will allow you to bypass all those port blocks as it goes through your browser and not a dedicated softphone.
If only they would make it possible to enter your own mobile phone number instead of calling from your computer, that way the call wouldn’t be affected by someone downloading last night’s Lost episode over in the corner.
