Flurry: Manage Email Accounts On Your Cell Phone
Got a lot of POP-based email accounts? Want to manage them all from your cell phone? Try Flurry, a free service [via TipMonkies]. If I understand correctly, Flurry is a Java-based application, so your cell phone or connected PDA has to be Java-enabled. Thing is though, if you get as much junk mail as I do on my half-dozen email accounts (which never manage to stay all that private), you might want to make sure that you have a good cellular data plan. Because of bandwidth issues, most cellular providers have a cap on cellular wireless plans. Mine’s 250 Mb/ month. For about $100. Ouch. And I don’t really want to scroll through a load of spam on my PDA, making my thumb sore.
So Flurry might be nice if you have a couple of fairly private email addresses and want to manage them on the go. And you can view attachments, including pics, amongst other features. (Flurry recommends a cellular data plan of at least 5 Mb/mth in general.) I suppose if you’re really geeky, you could even combine Flurry with GotVoice, which generates an email whenever you get a voice mail.
Note: I didn’t go past the registration process for Flurry, as I have no active email accounts that don’t receive some garbage. So I can’t tell you much more. You do have to enter your email passwords to set them up with flurry, so you might want to limit which accounts you actually register. (That’s true of all services similar to Flurry.) Might be nice for personal email accounts with friends and family, or an emergency account (if you’re on the go a lot) for work. Just one point of caution. Your POP email server might mark any messages you retrieve via Flurry as being “read”, so keep that in mind if you plan to browse via mobile but respond via your desktop/ laptop computer later.
