Dubai Bans VoIP

GulfNews report that Dubai have banned VoIP, making them the latest emirate in the UAE to ban internet telephony.  From my point of view this is a strange decision to make considering Dubai is marketing itself as a hub for international trade and tourism.

Because of the incredible growth seen recently in Dubai, many of the workers and residents there are foreign nationals who would require cheap international calls.  Businesses, being catered for in some spectacular new office developments, will also require cheap international telephony considering Dubai’s geographical position on a major trade route.

But as with anything, people will always find a way round a ban.
