D-Link V-Click Dual-mode WiFi / GSM Cell Phone
D-Link recently launched their dual-mode DECT PSTN / VoIP phone and have now announced their new Dual-mode WiFi / GSM cell phone. The V-Click will not be available until early 2007, sometime in the first quarter.
It will work on any GSM cell network, but can also hop onto a WiFi network because of it’s integrated 802.11 wireless networking. This will allow you to use the phone with any SIP-based VoIP provider such as Gizmo or Asterisk. The V-Click has a 2″ color LCD screen, weighs in at 3.3 ounces and has a familiar candybar form factor.
It can store up to 300 contacts in the address book, comes with the Opera mobile internet browser and also has a built in calendar. You’ll get up to 5 hours talk time in GSM and 2 hours in 802.11 wireless mode.
D-Link will make the V-Click available as an unlocked mobile priced at $599. That’s quite a bit of cash right there and will probably only appeal to a select few businessmen. However, there are plenty more WiFi phones available, but these will mostly run Skype.
