Comcast Expands VoIP Digital Voice Service
Comcast have announced that they have added 202,000 subscribers to their VoIP service in 2005. Comcast’s chairman and CEO Brian Roberts indicated that Comcast are on track to attract a further 1,000,000 subscribers to it’s Comcast Digital Voice service.
This news follows a very strong year of VoIP growth in the United States and internationally, with 2006 being touted by many commentators as a key year in VoIP’s migration from geek-tech to home.

[...] Here’s a bright business idea. Build up the largest cable VoIP subscribership around in your market (the US) then raise the prices on your cable service. That’s what Comcast is doing Jan 1st, 2007, claiming that they’ve added advanced products and services. Granted, the 4% increase does not affect the rates on their high-speed Internet or digital voice (VoIP) services, but it’s a neat little manoeuvre since many of their subscribers to the latter services very likely have cable TV with Comcast as well. And if you don’t like the increased cost, you have to find replacements for all three services, which most people won’t do because of the inconvenience.
