Cell Phone-Using Cheating Students To Be Caged
A Faraday Cage is any sort of enclosure that can block out radio frequency signals. It’s typically metal or wire-mesh based., and is the principle behind special sleeves now being used to protect RFID-enabled contactless credit cards and e-passports. It seems that Faraday Cage-enclosed rooms will now be used in the UK during some exams to stop students cheating by SMS. I wasn’t aware that Faraday Cages could be used to block out cell phone signals, but I guess it makes sense, since most such phones have poor reception in buildings with high metal concentrations in their infrastructure. These caged rooms would just be a more refined Faraday Cage.
