Avaya Updates Phones With Built-in VPN

Avaya have announced that they are to upgrade their phones with new built-in VPN capabilities and further integration of VoIP technology with video conferencing.

Avaya’s new integrated VPN client, called Avay VPNremote, is available for the Avaya 4600 family of phones via a software update, costing $330. With the new VPN client a user only needs to attach to a broadband connection and enter their login details to gain access to a corporate VPN. The new VPN client will intially only work with Avaya’s VPN solutions but they do have plans to phase in support for third-party VPN solutions in the future.

Polycom and Avaya have also announced an extension to their partnership to include tighter integration of VoIP with Polycom’s VSX video conferencing systems for groups.

“In order for videoconferencing to become ubiquitous, it has to be just like a phone call, and this is a major step toward that,” said Jonathon Davies, Polycom’s Director of field alliances.
