Analysis of Canadian VoIP Deregulation Decision

On the European citizen blog Agoravox (love that name), Mark Evans, a Canadian VoIP blogger, gives his analysis of the recent decision by the current Conservative government to deregulate the VoIP market in the country. Although his comment that the “regulation of the traditional local phone market will likely disappear soon” confuses me. To my knowledge, the Canadian telecom market was deregulated in the early 1990s. The price wars he speaks of already happened over a decade ago, when Bell Canada was told to loan some of their lines to their competitors. It’s possible that this only happened in select provinces, but unless I’ve managed to travel to an alternate Earth in the intervening years, I’m pretty sure deregulation already happened. As mentioned previously, I support deregulation of VoIP.
